New President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa sworn in

Zimbabwe’s new President Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in today, marking final chapter of a political drama that toppled his predecessor, Robert Mugabe, after a military takeover, said media news report.

The former President Mugabe who ruled in the southern African country for 37 autocratic years, was ousted from office when the military intervened after he had sacked Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was one of Mugabe’s closest allies until recently, and today he took the oath of the office as Zimbabwe’s new President  at the national sports stadium on the outskirts Harare in front of thousands of supporters, dignitaries and diplomats, media news report said.
